# Custom "No Data" Message

BI Tool users often want a customized message to appear in the event a user runs the report and gets no results. JasperSoft Studio has built-in functionality to support this.

By default, users will get the following message if they attempt to generate a report that does not contain any data:

If you'd like a custom message to appear, follow the steps below:

1. Navigate to the very **top of the Outline** and click on the report title.
2. Select the **Properties tab**
3. Change the **"When No Data Type"** to **"No Data Section"**

With that done, a "No Data" band should appear in your outline. Now, add the "No Data" band to your report (right-click on the band in your outline and choose "Add Band"), place a text field into the band and enter whatever message you would like your users to see in the event the report does not contain any data.
