Custom "No Data" Message

BI Tool users often want a customized message to appear in the event a user runs the report and gets no results. JasperSoft Studio has built-in functionality to support this.

By default, users will get the following message if they attempt to generate a report that does not contain any data:

If you'd like a custom message to appear, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the very top of the Outline and click on the report title.

  2. Select the Properties tab

  3. Change the "When No Data Type" to "No Data Section"

With that done, a "No Data" band should appear in your outline. Now, add the "No Data" band to your report (right-click on the band in your outline and choose "Add Band"), place a text field into the band and enter whatever message you would like your users to see in the event the report does not contain any data.
