Step 5 - Set Reset Type and Evaluation Time

Tutorial 2 for Pro Version: Using Report Bands

Step 5 - Set Reset Type & Evaluation Time for Your New Chart

First, set the reset type & reset group for your chart:

By setting the "Reset Type", we are telling Jasper that the calculations for this chart should be reset each time the chart is generated.

KEY CONCEPT

The "Reset Type" for your charts should match the band in which you placed your chart.

Example: My chart was placed in the "Site Group Header Band". Therefore, the Reset Group for my chart should also be set to "Site".

  • Double-click on the chart in the Site Group Header Band.

  • Click Chart Data

  • Set Reset Type to Group

  • Set Reset Group to your first Group

Next, set the "Evaluation Time" & "Evaluation Group" for your chart:

  • Click on the chart on your report canvas.

  • Go to the Properties Tab

  • Go to Advanced section in the Properties Tab

  • Set Evaluation Time to Group

  • Set Evaluation Group to your first group.

KEY CONCEPT

Evaluation Time can be a confusing concept at first, but just remember this simple guideline:

In almost all cases, the “Evaluation Time” should match the band in which you have placed your chart. (i.e. If the chart is in the “Site Name” band, the “Evaluation Time” field should be set to “Site Name” — just like the “Reset On” field.)

As you get familiar with JasperSoft and start playing around with the settings, you will see how these “Reset Type” and “Evaluation Time” fields can be very useful.
